Things That Can Serve as Evidence

To the extent you can do so safely, it may help to keep records such as:

  • Emails and messages
  • Photos
  • Bank transfer or transaction records
  • The date, time, and place the harm occurred
  • Information about the other person
  • Hospital records

You do not need to put yourself at risk to gather evidence.

Depending on the content of the harm, specialized consultation counters are available.

Support for Crime Victims

You may be able to receive consultation and support from the police, your municipality, Houterasu, and private support organizations, among others.

Since January 2026, a "lawyer system to support certain crime victims" (犯罪被害者等支援弁護士制度) has also been in operation for certain crime victims.

Check with Houterasu, among others, to see whether you are eligible.

Wanting to Consult in a Foreign Language

Check with the police or your local foreign resident consultation counter, among others, about foreign-language support.
