Moving within the same city, town, or ward
If your address changes within the same city, town, or ward, you complete a change-of-residence notification (tenkyo todoke) and similar procedures.
Don't forget to also check any cards you hold, such as your Residence Card and My Number Card.
Moving to a different city, town, or ward
You complete a moving-out notification at your current city, town, or ward, and a moving-in notification at your new one.
Using your My Number Card, you may be able to submit the moving-out notification online through Mynaportal.
After moving in, complete the necessary procedures at your new city, town, or ward office.
Moving from Japan to another country
If you are giving up your address in Japan and moving overseas, check the moving-out-of-Japan (kokugai tenshutsu) procedure at your city, town, or ward.
You also need to check health insurance, pension, and resident tax separately.
How your Residence Card is handled also depends on whether you plan to return to Japan or use re-entry permission.
