What is a missed-delivery notice?

You come home and find a delivery notice in your mailbox. This might be a "missed-delivery notice" (fuzaihyo), which tells you that no one was there to receive a parcel when the courier came to deliver it.

When You Get a Missed-Delivery Notice

  1. Check Courier Company
  2. Check Parcel Number
  3. Choose Date on Website/App
  4. Receive Parcel

Check the courier company

Check the name of the courier company written on the notice. Even similar-looking notices can be from different companies, such as postal mail versus a courier service.

Check the parcel number and the storage deadline

Check the inquiry number, tracking number, and so on. Also check the storage deadline written on the notice, and take care of it early.

Choose how to receive it

You may be able to choose a redelivery date and time through the official website, official app, phone, and so on. In some cases you can also receive it at a business office, post office, parcel locker, or similar location.

Receiving the parcel

Be at home at the specified date and time, or pick it up at the specified location. Some parcels require an identification document at the time of receipt.

If the contact information written on the notice seems unnatural or suspicious, don't open any link written on it right away — check instead from the courier company's official website.
